Wings of the Wild
Welcome Letter
Dear Friend,
Welcome.
Among the trees of Nurim, beside the creek, beneath fallen leaves and even under the ground,
countless little lives are unfolding.
Some arrive on wings. Some scamper through the grass. Others hide beneath old logs, build tiny
homes among the roots, or live in secret worlds beneath our feet.
Many are easy to overlook.
But here, they will not go unnoticed.
Welcome to Wings of the Wild, the storytelling heart of Nurim and the home of our
stories—the thousand and one stories, and then another.
You will meet Archie and the friends who share his world. There will be kookaburras and
cockatoos, rosellas and possums, spiders and insects, familiar characters and new ones we have
yet to discover.
But Wings of the Wild belongs just as much to the little creatures nobody stops to watch.
Here, even the smallest creature has a story worth telling.
Some of our stories will become books. Others may simply introduce you to a creature we
discovered on a walkabout, a curious moment beside the creek, or a tiny world that was there all
along, waiting for someone to notice.
The real birds, animals and little creatures around us are often where our stories begin. We
watch them, photograph them, wonder about them—and sometimes imagination takes over.
That is when another tale begins to find its wings.
So come quietly. Look closely. Listen.
There are stories in the treetops, stories beneath the leaves and stories hidden under the ground.
And when we think we have heard them all, Nurim will surely whisper:
There is always one more.
Welcome to Wings of the Wild.

From a Real Bird to a Story Character
Sometimes a story begins with nothing more than watching.
A bird lands nearby. He tilts his head, chooses his favourite perch,
or does something that makes us smile.
We watch. We wonder. And slowly, imagination begins to add a
little more.
A name.
A personality.
Perhaps even a green and gold scarf.
And somewhere between the real bird outside our window and the
story growing on the page, a character is born.
And that is how the Wings of the Wild find their way into our
stories.
